Tell Eventbrite: Stop Using the SPLC List to Discriminate

Should Focus on the Family, Turning Point USA, and PragerU be turned down from using popular event management software Eventbrite because a left-wing smear factory added them to a list?  That’s a very real possibility now that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has added all three groups to the latest version of its hate map next to groups like the KKK. Eventbrite announced in 2017 that the SPLC’s hate map was one of its top resources for deciding who to deplatform.  That was bad then, but it’s even worse now. Focus on the Family, TPUSA, and PragerU are major Christian or conservative organizations. And their stances have not materially changed. What has changed is that the SPLC is no longer even pretending to be unbiased. If Eventbrite doesn’t want to discriminate against Christians and conservatives, it must disavow the SPLC and declare that non-hateful groups on the map are allowed to use its services. Please sign the petition calling on Everbrite to do the right thing!

NTC Twitter Campaign Goes 3-for-3

Update (01/14/23): The Mythinformed Milwaukee (@MythinformedMKE) account has been reinstated! Update (12/22/22): Nicole Solas (@Nicoletta0602) had her account reinstated! Update (11/21/22): James Lindsay (@ConceptualJames) had his account reinstated! “I’m grateful for the grassroots action mobilized by the New Tolerance Campaign supporting my reinstatement and others silenced by Twitter for speaking truth,” Lindsay said. “Elon Musk has shown he listens to the voice of ‘the people’ on Twitter, and NTC is making sure the people are heard.” The New Tolerance Campaign will be Boston this week at the Parents Unite conference — and we’re using the occasion to shine a spotlight on the voices silenced by Twitter for exposing the youth indoctrination taking place across the country. And not a moment too soon — just hours ago, incoming Twitter owner Elon Musk fired CEO Parag Agrawal in a massive shakeup that portends good things for freedom of speech, but this isn’t the time to make assumptions. The Parents Unite gathering will celebrate “Diversity of Thought in K – 12 Education,” but sadly there is increasingly less “diversity of thought” in education to celebrate. Parents are being elbowed ever-further to the margins for criticizing policies in the classroom, and individuals who pull the curtain back on groupthink pushed by educators and elites are finding themselves locked out of social media by Big Tech overlords. The New Tolerance Campaign is asking for your help to get three of the most prominent Twitter accounts in the movement reinstated: Nicole Solas (@Nicoletta0602) — Shut out of Twitter for a quote-tweet critical of drag queen classes for youth supported by Colorado state legislators. James Lindsay (@ConceptualJames) — Banned for criticizing “the sexualization of children” following a targeted campaign orchestrated by the far-left group Media Matters. Mythinformed Milwaukee (@MythinformedMKE) — Suspended after posting an exposé in which an LGBTQ Pride parade attendee declared support for “kink with kids.” The New Tolerance Campaign has won these battles before — but we need your grassroots support to do it again…and there has never been a better time than NOW!       [Lindsay photo credit: Gage Skidmore, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons (cropped w/graphic overlay)]

Shut Down by Amazon Following False Accusations of Racism — Demand Answers

Brandon Jackson came home on May 25 to discover he had been locked out of his Amazon Echo, which controlled many of his electronics — including his lights. Why? A delivery driver claimed he heard racist slurs through the doorbell. Jackson is black, wasn’t home, and has video showing the delivery driver wearing headphones at the time of the incident. Even after showing proof of his innocence to Amazon, it took the company over a week to unlock his devices. This should never have happened in the first place. Taking protective action to guarantee the safety of employees is reasonable; shutting someone out of their own property is not. Demand answers from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and a promise this will never happen again!

NTC Fast-Tracks Action by Oversight Board Following Facebook Suspension

Last month, NTC supporter Ryan M. had his Facebook account suspended. His crime? A post recommending action against the infamous Chinese spy balloon surveilling the United States from January 28 to February 4 — specifically, a call for the U.S. military to “shoot it down.” Facebook responded by suspending Ryan’s account for going “against community standards on coordinating harm and promoting crime.” After bringing the situation to the attention of NTC, President Gregory T. Angelo contacted the Facebook Oversight Board directly to demand answers. “Ryan wasn’t advocating harm to any living thing; he simply advocated for a course of action that was regularly discussed on the news, by elected officials, etc. — and that was ultimately taken by the U.S. military,” Angelo wrote. “When I didn’t know where else to turn, the New Tolerance Campaign had my back — and they get results.” —Ryan M. A representative from the Facebook Oversight Board responded with word that Ryan’s case was fast-tracked: “I will alert our shortlisting team,” the Oversight Board rep stated. Soon after, Ryan’s account was reinstated. “When I didn’t know where else to turn, the New Tolerance Campaign had my back — and they get results,” Ryan said.

New Tolerance Campaign Announces 2022 “Worst of the Woke” Awards

WORST OF THE WOKE 2022 “The Great Unwokening” The Top 10 most hypocritical institutions of the year — and one “Champion of Tolerance”  In the past year, there was no shortage of institutions pushing phony tolerance under the banners of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” and “environmental, social, and governance” initiatives. But 2022 was also notable for the American public pushing back on institutions and their double-standards. Here are the 10 worst offenders: Award Winner: Disney* Reason: In 2022, now-ousted CEO Bob Chapek gave a master class on how not to respond to woke demands. Following the passage of Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill (erroneously yet ubiquitously branded by the media as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill), Chapek demurred when Disney employees demanded the company condemn the legislation, rightly asserting that “corporate statements do very little to change outcomes or minds.” Weeks later, Disney did an about-face, declaring the company would support organizations seeking to “replace” the law or have it “struck down in the courts.” Florida legislators and Governor Ron DeSantis responded by stripping Disney of special taxation and self-governance perks it’s enjoyed for decades. The public wasn’t buying Disney’s activism either — quite literally. Following a string of box office bombs, in November Disney abruptly announced Chapek would be stepping down as CEO, making way for his predecessor Bob Iger to return. Iger stepped back into the role of chief executive committing to “quiet” the obsession with cultural issues at the entertainment powerhouse and “respect” consumers of their content. Award Winner: BlackRock* Reason: When you follow the ESG money trail, almost all roads lead to BlackRock. The financial behemoth manages $10 trillion dollars, and has been prioritizing investments in “socially conscious” companies and those dedicated to “environmental sustainability” — except in China, a nation notorious for its rampant industrial pollution and human rights abuses. When called out on the hypocrisy, CEO Larry Fink doubled down. The result: treasurers in West Virginia, Louisiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Florida, Arkansas, Utah, and Arizona pulled state investments from BlackRock totaling $4.28 billion. Award Winner: Twitter* Reason: After years of subjective censorship, account suspensions, and partisan activism, Twitter was at a breaking point by October of this year when Elon Musk stepped in and took over the tech giant, ushering in a new era of free speech and open debate. He also pulled back the curtain on Twitter’s previous policy revealing the platform’s critics’ worst fears: Twitter’s staff censored accounts at the bidding of political elites. Award Winner: Apple Reason: Apple touts a commitment to “diversity, equity, and inclusion” in the United States, while contracting with suppliers in China using forced labor that has propelled the company to record profits. In 2022, Apple took the hypocrisy to a dangerous new level: blocking iPhone communication features in China at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party to help crush domestic protests. Award Winner: American Express Reason: At American Express, prejudice and hypocrisy are everywhere you want to be. In 2022, journalist Christopher Rufo exposed AmEx rules that incentivized hiring and promotion based on race and sex. Not only are such policies illegal and in violation of the company’s fiduciary duties — they’re also un-American. In 2022, NTC unveiled the “UnAmerican Express” campaign in partnership with Color Us United and Consumers’ Research, rallying grassroots action that to date has generated more than 46,000 messages to state pension trustees alerting them to the concerning personnel standards at AmEx. Award Winner: Georgetown University Reason: The woke mob roared into action in January following a tweet by constitutional scholar Ilya Shapiro declaring SCOTUS nominees should be selected based on accomplishment rather than race. Georgetown Law responded by suspending Shapiro as the school’s Executive Director. The university exerted no such discipline in 2018 when Professor Christine Fair wished “miserable deaths” on supporters of Justice Kavanaugh. During a months-long Georgetown “investigation” into Shapiro’s tweet, students demanded that Georgetown use the moment to develop a “reparations” package that included free food and a designated place on campus for students to cry. The fiasco prompted Shapiro to walk away from Georgetown — and its cancel-culture mob — entirely. Award Winner: ACLU* Reason: The Amber Heard-Johnny Depp defamation trial made news for weeks. At the heart of the case: the ACLU and a 2018 op-ed bylined by Heard that implied abuse at Depp’s hands. Courtroom testimony from ACLU Chief Operating Officer Terrence Dougherty revealed the organization was “involved in conceiving, drafting and placing” the piece. By the time all was said and done, Heard was found guilty of defaming Depp, the #MeToo movement was effectively dead, and, in the words of Richard Klein, the once-respected ACLU had become little more than “a disgraced group of attorneys.” Award Winner: The Olympics Reason: The International Olympic Committee bent over backwards to accommodate China’s authoritarian government during the Winter Olympics in Beijing: gaslighting about the wellbeing of tennis star Peng Shuai and refusing to condemn CCP human rights abuses (in direct contravention of the Olympic Charter and Code of Ethics). Fox News host Laura Ingraham stepped up and rallied concerned Americans to tell NBC #NotOneMinute of their time would be spent watching Olympics television coverage. With Ingraham’s amplification, NTC supporters sent more than 26,000 messages to NBC executives. The United States staged a diplomatic boycott of the Games, and ratings reached record lows for NBC. Award Winner: School Boards Reason: “Nonpartisan” school boards pushing far-left agendas got a wake-up call this year, as parents asserted their right to know what their children are being taught in the classroom. In-home instruction via Zoom during the COVID pandemic alerted parents to the radical gender ideology and critical race theory being taught in grade schools. This year, alarm turned into action as grassroots campaigns driven by concerned parents replaced school board members pushing cultural agendas. Award Winner: The NBA Reason: The world of pro sports continued its wokeward drift in 2022, but none more so than the National Basketball Association (NBA). This year, for the first time in its history,

The FBI Must Be Held Accountable for Twitter Censorship

Twitter owner Elon Musk has pulled back the curtain on past dealings the FBI has had with the social media giant — and it’s not pretty. The “Twitter Files” revealed the Federal Bureau of Investigation regularly leaned on the platform’s content moderators and then-Head of Trust and Safety Yoel Roth to remove tweets, suspend accounts, and even share the location information of ordinary Americans. The fact that the FBI — a powerful law enforcement arm of the federal government — bullied Twitter, a private company, to silence speech should deeply concern every American. For FBI personnel, it’s a direct violation of their mission to “protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.” Tell Director Christopher Wray and FBI leadership to stop censoring Americans!

Following Pressure from NTC Advocates Twitter Reinstates Paul Rossi’s Account

Update (07-19-22): Twitter has reinstated Paul Rossi’s account! Thank you to all of the advocates who stepped up and sent hundreds of messages to Twitter’s CEO in support of this outcome! See Paul’s message of thanks here: Feels good to be back, folx. Too bad for you @NAISnetwork. I have many many people to thank for their support & advice over the past two months as I addressed this suspension: @parentsunite_ @CBHeresy @ConceptualJames @New_Tolerance @peterboghossian & so many more. Onward! — Paul Rossi (@pauldrossi) July 20, 2022 Twitter had suspended Paul Rossi’s account. The longtime educator’s infraction? He exposed the woke curriculum being taught in classrooms across the country — and the school associations that encourage it. Rossi already lost his job for speaking out — Grace Church School ended his employment last year. Now, Twitter is trying to take his voice away, too. First, Rossi was locked out of his account after posting a clip of a critical race theory training for kindergarten teachers from the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Then, after sharing a 90-second video from the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) in which an educator stated, “the Pythagorean Theorem doesn’t mean anything by itself,” Twitter suspended Rossi’s account — and ignored all his appeals for reinstatement. NAIS is infamous for imposing a highly politicized and divisive social justice agenda in its membership network of more than 1,600 schools; NYSAIS then distributes this content to its schools in an “indoctrination-in-exchange-for-accreditation” model. Rossi is just one man who put it all on the line to stand up for students; when the odds were agains him NTC supporters stood up.

Tell Facebook to End Its Censorship Double Standards

On September 13, 2021, Jeff Horwitz of the Wall Street Journal broke news of massive institutional double standards at Facebook, resulting in one set of terms of service enforcement for celebrities, professional athletes, and other public figures, and a different set of standards for everyone else. The social media giant’s “XCheck” system, as it is called internally at Facebook, “has protected public figures whose posts contain harassment or incitement to violence, violations that would typically lead to sanctions for regular users,” Horowitz revealed in his exposé. Intra-company reviews of the policy determined that Facebook’s preferential treatment of elites “found favoritism to those users to be both widespread and ‘not publicly defensible.’” Facebook must end its censorship double standards and stop treating elites differently than everyone else. The XCheck system, according to the Wall Street Journal report, was created in order to help Facebook avoid “PR fires” — essentially, for the sake of avoiding negative press, the standards of enforcement for what constitutes unacceptable content are much lower for those in Facebook’s secret club of VIPs. For the masses of everyday users of Facebook, no such special consideration is given. Ordinary users can have posts censored and deleted automatically by Facebook’s algorithm or taken down by moderators. Once that happens, the avenues for appeal are few. Responding to the Wall Street Journal piece, Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone issued a thread on Twitter that sought to explain XCheck as a reasonable system that allowed the social media platform to double-check posts from certain pages and people before taking action against them. In so doing, he underscored the fact that Facebook does, indeed, have two sets of standards for the enforcement of its policies. Send CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook a message: double standards that allow the privileged elite to get away with activity that gets everyday users banned is unacceptable. Tell the ACLU: Stand by Your Mission — or Be Honest and Change It

On Thursday, July 15, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki made an alarming announcement that the Biden Administration was “flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation” about the COVID pandemic. Exactly what the President of the United States and his team deem “disinformation” was not stated. One day later, Psaki doubled down, stating people “shouldn’t be banned from one platform and not others for providing disinformation.” If you’re deemed in violation of one social media company’s terms of service, you’re apparently in violation of them all. While the federal government admitted to colluding with Big Tech to censor Americans, our country’s preeminent free speech advocacy organization the ACLU was nowhere to be found. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has a storied history of being an objective defender of American civil liberties — however controversial the individual or vile the speech, the ACLU built a reputation around a mission that the Constitution protects everyone. Sadly, in recent years, the ACLU has made a drastic departure from its stated mission. Once a bastion of free speech, the ACLU has started letting social justice trends direct its actions. As the New York Times recently exposed, the ACLU can’t decide if it wants to stick to its founding principles or becoming just another soldier in the progressive cause. Join us in holding on the ACLU accountable: state your mission and make it clear! The ACLU is over a century old as had defended the First Amendment rights of everyone from the Nation of Islam to the KKK. Many at the ACLU still believing in defending the rights of all, and they still do occasionally take cases that are highly controversial or benefit groups that are right-of-center. However, the ACLU has generally not engaged in the recent string of free speech cases on college campuses, while it has eagerly jumped on the ‘defund the police’ bandwagon. The organization rallied and fundraised off hatred for President Trump and embraced the extremes of identity politics. Leadership also recently rolled out guidelines that, according to NYT, “suggested lawyers should balance taking a free speech case representing right-wing groups whose ‘values are contrary to our values’ against the potential such a case might give ‘offense to marginalized groups.’” In the words of ACLU founder Ira Glasser, “There are a lot of organizations fighting eloquently for racial justice and immigrant rights. But there’s only one ACLU that is a content-neutral defender of free speech. I fear we’re in danger of losing that.” The ACLU has risen to its current prominence partially because of its principled non-partisan stances, and while its actions were often controversial, it arguably did a lot of good by being a consistent example of principle over partisanship. Organizations are of course free to change their mission, and if the ALCU wants to only champion progressive causes, that is its right. But if it chooses the latter, it must be honest about it and not deceive donors or the public. Use the form on this page to tell the ACLU to make their choice clear: Do they stand for civil liberties for all? Or just for those they agree with?

Tell Facebook and Twitter: Make a Clear List of What Speech Is Off Limits

It’s no secret that Facebook and Twitter have done a poor job of fairly and transparently enforcing their content policies. Their CEOs have even acknowledged this from time-to-time and promised to do better, but the problems persist. Facebook and Twitter have lengthy “Community Standards” and a “hateful conduct policy” respectively, but they are highly ambiguous and inconsistently enforced. Prof. Robert P. George proposed a solution that would be simple and fair: “publish a list of beliefs that may not be questioned on the platform.” Use the form on this page to sign the petition demanding that Facebook and Twitter produce clear lists of expressions and ideas they deem off-limits for discussion on social media. Doing so would provide a clear starting point for both the companies and the users to understand what the rules actually are: Users can criticize every government agency except the CDC? Certain racist expressions are banned but calling for a second Hitler is okay? If nothing else, users of the social media platforms would finally know what they were dealing with. Furthermore, both platforms must stop giving blanket reasons for suspensions and bans. “You violated our community standards” isn’t good enough. Which stated belief was transgressed? As a nation, we believe citizens have a right to know exactly what they are accused of. Social media platforms should adopt the same standard. No more arbitrary bans and suspensions for vague reasons. No more excuses. Tell Facebook and Twitter to Make a Clear List and Honor It!
