In December of 2022, the elderly parents of one group member were found murdered in their home; Zizians were suspected, but no arrests were made. In January of 2025, Lind was found dead before he could testify in his case of attempted murder against the Zizians; a Ziz cult member has been charged with his homicide. Later that month, two Ziz members opened fire and killed U.S. Border Patrol agent David Maland during a traffic stop. On February 16, 2025, cult leader Lasota and two other Ziz cult members were arrested on various charges, including trespassing, obstructing and hindering, and possession of a handgun.
