University of Michigan Board of Regent Democrat Nominee Amir Makled

Amir Makled, an attorney based in Dearborn, Michigan, has recently drawn public attention following reporting on past social media activity and his emergence as a candidate for statewide educational leadership. According to reporting from Bridge Michigan and The Detroit News, archived social media activity attributed to Makled indicates that he reshared or engaged with posts in June and July 2025 that included language widely regarded as offensive, including use of the term “Jew” in a derogatory context. The posts were reportedly accessed through internet archives after being deleted. Additional archived posts reviewed by these outlets indicate that Makled reshared content expressing support for members of Hezbollah, a U.S. State Department-designated terrorist organization. This included posts referring to the group’s former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in September 2024, as a “martyr.” These reports have surfaced alongside Makled’s recent political advancement. He secured the Michigan Democratic Party’s nomination for University of Michigan Regent at the state party convention, defeating incumbent Regent Jordan Acker. The reporting has contributed to broader public discussion regarding standards of conduct, online rhetoric, and the expectations for individuals seeking positions of influence within major public institutions such as the University of Michigan.

NYC Mental Health Provider Jennifer Koonings

Jennifer Koonings, a mental health provider formerly affiliated with Inspire Mental Health Services, recorded and published a video in which she directed antisemitic slurs toward individuals in New York City. In the footage, Koonings can be heard shouting phrases including “baby killers,” “you guys killed babies in Palestine,” and “f*ck Israel” at individuals who appeared to be peacefully going about their day. Given Koonings’ role as a mental health provider at the time of the incident, the episode raised broader questions about professional judgment and the ability to provide care to diverse populations, including Jewish clients. Following public reporting, Inspire Mental Health Services seems to have removed Koonings from its “Our Team” page of their website and has reportedly confirmed that she is no longer employed by them. This public outburst and firing does not appear to be occurring in isolation. Publicly available materials, including a Change.org petition and Koonings’ own social media statements, describe a prior controversy in which she was reportedly dismissed from a previous role as a sexual assault forensic examiner at Mount Sinai Hospital after disputes related to her public commentary on allegations of sexual violence connected to the October 7 attacks on Israel. These claims remain contested and are presented here as part of the broader public record surrounding her conduct and professional history. The direct targeting of individuals based on perceived religious or ethnic identity, particularly through dehumanizing language, raises legitimate public concern and meets the criteria for inclusion on the New Tolerance Campaign’s Hate Map.

First Lady of New York City Rama Duwaji

Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is facing growing scrutiny after multiple news reports and posts surfaced online highlighting a pattern of past social media activity that appears to engage with or amplify content tied to extremist narratives. According to investigative reporting by Jon Levine of the Washington Free Beacon, Duwaji “liked” posts connected to the October 7 Hamas attacks, including content that questioned or downplayed widely reported atrocities. Hamas is designated by the United States government as a foreign terrorist organization.  Additional archived content from a Tumblr account reportedly includes praise for individuals linked to past terrorist activity, such as airline hijacker Leila Khaled. That same archived account shows that she reshared two posts, one blaming white people for creating Al-Qaeda and another disparaging U.S. troops fighting abroad as “not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom.” Multiple other screenshots getting circulated online demonstrate her previous use of derogatory slurs. For example, in one X (formerly Twitter) post from 2013 she used the word “F*gg*ts” (in abbreviated terms), and in a reply to a different user she used the highly charged term, “n*gga” (Screenshot 1 and Screenshot 2 clickable evidence). Just two years and a few months later, the now-First Lady of New York City would go on to repost content with language like: “F*ck Tel Aviv. Shouldn’t exist in the first place. They’re occupiers…” Following increased public attention, it’s now being reported that Duwaji’s old X account (@_RamaDee) has been deleted.

Guy Christensen

Guy Christensen is a TikTok influencer who goes by the handle YourFavoriteGuy and has more than 3 million followers. He claims to be 19 years old and to live in Pennsylvania. Christensen posted a TikTok video supporting the May 21, 2025, killing of two Israeli embassy staffers. His video (now deleted by TikTok) stated: “I do not condemn the elimination of the Zionist officials who worked at the Israeli embassy last night…I want to urge you first to support [the shooter] Elias’ actions. He is not a terrorist. He’s a resistance fighter, and the fact is that the fight against Israel’s war machine, against their genocide machine, against their criminality, includes their foreign diplomats in this country.”

Democratic Socialists of America – Liberation Caucus

The Liberation Caucus describes itself on X as “A Marxist-Leninist-Maoist caucus in DSA.” After Elias Rodriguez shot two Israeli Embassy staffers in cold blood on May 21, 2025, yelling “Free, free Palestine,” the caucus posted “Free Elias Rodriguez and all political prisoners” on X and endorsed a statement saying  the shooting was “a legitimate act of resistance against the zionist state.” The Caucus has held to its violent stance despite pushback from DSA leadership.

Alberta Testanero

A dual Italian-American citizen and creative director for several luxury brands including Tiffany & Co., Coach, Bergdorf Goodman and Kate Spade, Testanero was caught on tape riding a subway in New York City berating a Trump supporter, calling him “uneducated” and a “racist.” The situation escalated when Testanero ran out of the subway car and attempted to snatch the individual’s red “Make America Great Again” baseball cap, resulting in her tripping and falling onto the cement. A former coworker noted in an interview with the New York Post that Testanero had become “extremely liberal and very agitated,” often engaging in arguments with Republicans and calling out individuals she believed to be “racist.”

Usama Jammal

Jammal serves as Secretary General of the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), an umbrella group established in 2014 that encompasses prominent Islamist organizations including CAIR and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Prior to his role at USCMO, Jammal was a board member of the Bridgeview Mosque in Illinois. This religious institution has faced scrutiny for its connections to extremist figures and organizations. Under Jammal’s leadership, USCMO has worked closely with Islamist advocacy groups, including CAIR, whose leaders such as Nihad Awad, have been accused of maintaining ties to Hamas and other radical movements. Jammal has appeared alongside Awad at multiple events, reinforcing a strategic alliance between USCMO and CAIR. Jammal’s past associations raise further concerns: In 2003, while serving as a board member at the aforementioned Bridgeview Mosque, he helped raise funds for the legal defense of Sami Al-Arian, who later pleaded guilty to providing material support to Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a designated terrorist organization. Despite the charges, Jammal defended the mosque’s actions, claiming that it was simply supporting a “community member’s legal defense.” Jammal has also been associated with events and organizations that have expressed support for Hamas. Following the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel in which more than 1,200 Israeli civilians were slaughtered, USCMO did not issue a condemnation of Hamas. Through his leadership at USCMO, Jammal has positioned himself as a key figure in American Muslim advocacy networks. However, his ties to Islamist figures, refusal to distance himself from radical elements, and longstanding involvement with organizations linked to extremism raise serious questions about his role in shaping the political and ideological landscape of Muslim activism in the United States.

Esam S. Omeish

A Virginia-based surgeon and a senior board member of CAIR’s Washington Trust Foundation (the entity that controls CAIR’s extensive real estate assets), over the years Omeish has been embroiled in controversies involving extremist rhetoric, affiliations with Islamist organizations, and suspicious financial dealings. In 2007, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine appointed Omeish to the Virginia Commission on Immigration. However, he was forced to resign just a month later when video footage surfaced of him praising “the jihad way” as the means to “liberate your land.” Omeish previously served as President of the Muslim American Society (MAS), an organization founded by individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. Additionally, as a board member of Dar Al-Hijrah, a mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, Omeish played a role in hiring Anwar al-Awlaki as an imam. Al-Awlaki later became a leading figure in Al-Qaeda and was linked to multiple terrorist plots. In 2017, Libya’s Defense and National Security Committee listed Omeish’s name as the 29th among 75 individuals designated as terrorists, identifying him as an “international member of the Muslim Brotherhood.” In 2023, just nine days after the Hamas October 7 terrorist attack that took the lives of more than 1,200 Israeli civilians, Omeish posted a poem in Arabic on Facebook expressing hope that “Jihad and the Mujahideen” would be victorious. Despite scrutiny, Omeish remains influential within CAIR and broader Islamist advocacy networks.

Thahabi has supported violent jihad, stating that “Jihad is a must for Muslims.” He has praised Islamic punishments and expressed open hatred for Jews, comparing them to Satan in a June 2024 sermon. Thahabi’s influence has sparked concern over his role in Masjid Assunnah’s Islamic school, with fears of youth radicalization due to his extremist ideology.
