Samidoun (Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network)

A designated terror group in Israel, Samidoun has been banned from operating in Germany after “cheering” and handing out candy in celebration of the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel that claimed the lives of more than 1,200 civilians. Samidoun reportedly helped organize dozens of anti-Israel rallies around the world and in the United States at Princeton University. The Israeli Foreign Ministry states Samidoun is linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, an established Palestinian terror group. In October 2024, both Canada and the United States joined Israel, Germany, and the Netherlands in declaring Samidoun a terrorist organization for taking part in the October 7 terrorist massacre that took the lives of more than 1,200 Israeli civilians, holding hostages, and conducting assassinations against Israeli citizens. The notice also called Samidoun a “sham charity” used by the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine to fund operations in Europe and North America. “Organizations like Samidoun masquerade as charitable actors that claim to provide humanitarian support to those in need, yet in reality divert funds for much-needed assistance to support terrorist groups,” Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. Smith said of the designation. Khaled Barakat, the leader of Samidoun, is also associated with the antisemitic BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement. Bakarat also served as one of the “one of the founders” and the coordinator of the preparatory committee of the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement (Masar Badil), which was launched in October 2021 according to Canary Mission, a group that tracks antisemitism in the United States. Masar Badil’s stated aim is the creation of a “single, undivided Palestine from the river to the sea” accomplished through the abolition of Israel. In March 2024, Barakat spoke on a Zoom seminar titled “Palestinian Resistance 101,” in which numerous anti-Israel voices spoke on the “fight for liberation.” During the seminar, Barakat celebrated the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel. In defense of the attacks, Bakarat stated, “It’s really important to see how the Al-Aqsa Flood operation have liberated the Palestinian inner strength…the new generations that today are getting involved in the struggle, and it’s so visible in the U.S., Canada…and elsewhere, of a new generation that is actually leading our struggle in the diaspora.” Barakat also praised terrorist hijacking of airplanes, saying, “It was one of the most important tactics that the Palestinian resistance have engaged in.”
